Version 0.1.0-draft · Last updated September 20, 2026
This document is a draft and is not in effect. It describes how QuestMaster works today, but it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and may change before it takes effect. Nothing here creates an agreement until this notice is gone.
1. Who we are
QuestMaster is a tool that helps a Dungeon Master run a tabletop role-playing campaign: it records and transcribes sessions, writes summaries and recaps, keeps campaign notes, and shares what the DM chooses with the players. It is run by Kyle Fischer, doing business as QuestMaster (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at support@questmaster.dev.
These terms are an agreement between you and us. By creating an account or using QuestMaster you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data and is part of these terms.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to use QuestMaster.
- You sign in through our authentication provider, with an email address or a linked account such as Discord. Keep your sign-in secure; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Each account has a role in each campaign: the DM who runs it, or a player. A DM can invite players, and decides what of the campaign the players can see.
3. Your content
Your campaigns, characters, notes, recordings, transcripts and everything else you put into QuestMaster remain yours. You give us permission to store, process, copy and display that content only as needed to run QuestMaster for you and the people you share it with, including sending it to the service providers listed in the Privacy Policy that do the work (for example, transcribing audio or writing a summary). That permission ends when the content is deleted, except for copies we must keep briefly to recover from failures, which the Privacy Policy describes.
A campaign is shared between its DM and its players. If you leave QuestMaster, content you added to a campaign that others still use stays in that campaign, shown as written by “Deleted user”, so that their game is not broken. Your own private writing, such as journal entries and messages to the DM, is deleted.
Only put content into QuestMaster that you have the right to use. Do not upload other people's copyrighted books, maps or adventures unless you are allowed to.
4. AI-generated content
QuestMaster uses AI services to transcribe speech, write summaries, recaps and suggestions, and generate images. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or similar to content made for someone else. Check it before you rely on it or share it. You decide what to keep, edit, publish to your players or discard.
As between you and us, you own the output generated for your campaigns, to the extent anyone can. We do not use your content to train AI models.
5. Recording your table
Recording a conversation can be against the law unless everyone in it agrees, and the rules differ between places. If you record a session with QuestMaster, you are responsible for telling everyone at the table and getting any consent the law where they are requires, before you start.
- Before each recorded session, QuestMaster asks the DM to confirm how many people are at the table and that everyone has been told the session is being recorded and what happens to the recording. It keeps that confirmation as a record. The confirmation does not replace the consent the law may require; getting that is up to you.
- While a recording is running, QuestMaster shows that it is recording, and gives the DM a plain-language notice to show the table: what is captured, that the audio is deleted after transcription, how long the transcript is kept, and who can read it.
- Do not record anyone who has not agreed, and stop if someone asks you to.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use QuestMaster to:
- break the law, or record, harass, threaten or impersonate anyone;
- upload sexual content involving minors, or content that exploits anyone;
- get around usage limits, access controls or security, or reach data that is not yours or shared with you;
- overload, scrape, reverse engineer or resell the service, or use it or its output to build a competing AI model;
- upload malware or anything meant to harm other people's devices.
We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules.
7. Game content and other services
- QuestMaster includes material from the System Reference Document 5.2, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. The attribution is on the SRD Attribution page. QuestMaster is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.
- If you import a character from D&D Beyond, the import is a one-time copy of your own character, made at your request. It is your data, it is never added to QuestMaster's shared rules content, and later changes on D&D Beyond do not sync. QuestMaster is not affiliated with D&D Beyond.
- Optional connections such as Discord, and Smart Terrain lighting hardware, are provided by others under their own terms, which also apply when you use them.
8. Plans, payment and cancellation
- The Free plan costs nothing and includes the limits shown on the pricing page.
- When it is on sale, the Pro plan costs $15 a month plus any applicable tax, billed monthly in advance through our payment provider, Stripe. It renews each month until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time from Settings, Billing. You keep Pro until the end of the month you have paid for, then move to the Free plan. We do not refund partial months, except where the law requires it.
- If a payment fails, you keep Pro for 7 days while the payment is retried, then move to the Free plan.
- We will tell you before a price change takes effect, and it applies from your next billing period.
- Every plan has fair-use limits on AI features, such as a number of recorded sessions a month, daily limits and a monthly spending cap. When you reach one, those features pause until it resets; your existing content is unaffected.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, Account. Deletion happens 30 days after you confirm, and you can cancel it during that time. Deleting your account cancels any Pro subscription. The Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and what stays in shared campaigns.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we stop offering QuestMaster. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you time to export your data from Settings, Exports.
10. No warranty
QuestMaster is provided “as is” and “as available”. It is a young service that changes often. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose; Settings, Exports lets you download it.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim about QuestMaster is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms in a way that matters, we update the version and date at the top of this page and ask you to accept the new version in the app. You can keep using QuestMaster for 14 days while you read it; after that the request stays on screen until you accept. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Franklin County, Ohio, have jurisdiction over any dispute, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there.
